Now more than ever, we need students engaged in improving healthcare access, delivery, and quality. The Medical Care Blog is committed to elevating student voices. We have just wrapped up our student blog competition that was co-sponsored by the Medical Care Section of APHA!
The posts submitted by students ranged broadly, from administrative to political and clinical to philosophical. Students came from undergraduate, graduate, and clinical programs across the country. We are incredibly excited at the amazing pool of entries. Fortunately, we were able to offer many students the chance to publish their blogs.
The Winners
After some close judging, we’re excited to announce our three $250 prize winners:
- “Want to be an Antiracist? Expand Medicaid (Or End It)” by Zach Dyer, an MD/PhD student at the University of Massachusetts (posted March 25, 2021)
- “Teledermatology: Strengths and Weaknesses for Implementation” by Raj Fadadu, an MD student at the University of California, San Francisco and MS student at University of California, Berkeley (posted April 1, 2021)
- “Scams Come to Life During a Deadly Pandemic” by Kimmy Moon, an MPH student at California State University, Los Angeles (posted April 8, 2021)
The blog will feature each of the winning entries over the next few weeks.
We wanted students to bring forth ideas we had not considered. We wanted to encourage students to write and share ideas and embrace their role as future leaders. Getting the chance to read entries about what students care about was inspiring.
Thank You
Thank you to all our judges and to the Medical Care Section members who promoted the competition. We could not have done it without you.
To the students who submitted entries, thank you for your passion. Keep thinking, keep sharing ideas, and keep writing. Our blog is always looking for new contributions as is the Medical Care journal. We hope you’ll keep building on your ideas and keep the conversation going.
